Your gift can help bury indigent Jews while also reducing your taxable income.
WHAT IS A QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTION (QCD)?
A qualified charitable distribution is a distribution transferred directly from your IRA to a 501(c)(3) non-profit like Hebrew Free Burial Association. Donors can give up to $100,000 a year from their IRAs as a QCD while simultaneously reducing their taxable income.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO MAKE A QCD?
Anyone above the age of 70 ½ can make a QCD. Once an IRA owner reaches the age of 72, they are required by law to make an annual withdrawal from their IRA, which is known as a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). The Qualified Charitable Distribution made from your IRA will qualify towards your RMD AND reduce your taxable income.
Your gift must be made by December 31 in order to be counted as part of your RMD for that calendar year.
HOW DO I BENEFIT?
If you must take your required minimum distribution, QCDs are a good way to distribute the amount out of your IRA. Your QCD fulfills your desire to benefit the HFBA’s mission, counts against your required minimum distribution AND reduces your taxable income.
HOW CAN I MAKE A QCD TO HFBA?
- Contact your IRA administrator and instruct that person to make a distribution by transferring the QCD funds directly to HFBA. Here is a sample form for you to use.
- Help us credit your gift and thank you by having your IRA administrator include your full name and mailing address on the gift. Also, ask your administrator to note that the transfer is an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution.
- Complete the form at the bottom of this page or send an email to akoplow@hebrewfreeburial.org to inform us of your intent. (Many retirement providers do not provide donor information to the nonprofit recipient).
